How to Set Up Your Centurion for Wakeboarding
When setting up a Centurion (specifically with the Opti-V hull) for wakeboarding, the goal is to adjust the ballast and speed to match the rider's ability. The deep-V hull naturally creates a large wave, so for beginners, the focus is often on reducing the wake size, while for advanced riders, it's about maximizing volume and pop.
Here is the step-by-step setup for every skill level:
1. Beginner Setup
Goal: A small, clean, and unintimidating wake that is easy to cross.
- Ballast: 0% (Empty). Do not fill any ballast. The natural displacement of the boat is sufficient.
- Speed: 18 – 19 MPH. Slower speeds make falls softer and the wake less punchy.
- Tabs (Stinger Plate): 50% – 85%. Deploying the center plate helps lift the stern and flatten the wake, making it smoother for learning to cross.
2. Intermediate Setup
Goal: A defined wake with a clean lip for jumping wake-to-wake.
- Ballast: Ramfill at 50%. (Leave Plug-and-Play bags empty).
- Speed: 20 – 21 MPH.
- Tabs (Stinger Plate): 10% – 20%. Reduce the plate deployment to allow the tail to sink slightly, increasing the wake's vertical pop.
3. Advanced Setup
Goal: Maximum size and a steep, hard boot-camp style kick.
-
Ballast:
- Ramfill: 80% – 100%
- Rear Plug-and-Play: 100%
- Bow Ballast: ~40% (To keep the nose down and lengthen the transition).
- Speed: 22.5 – 23 MPH. (A common sweet spot on the Ri/Fi series is 22.7 MPH).
- Tabs (Stinger Plate): 0%. Retract the plate completely to let the hull sit deep in the water for maximum displacement.
Pro Tip: Use User Profiles
Always set up a "User Profile" in your Centurion's Touch Vision Dash for each of these levels (e.g., "Wakeboard Beg", "Wakeboard Adv"). This allows you to hit one button and have the boat automatically fill to these levels while you get the rider ready.
